Saturday mornings on a day off usually means listening to some tunes. This morning I’m listening to Morals of a Minor; an Adelaide indie / rock band who were only around for a few years and released one album called Questions and Answers.
I first heard Morals of a Minor on the radio station Triple J’s website. They were chosen as a Next Crop artist for Aus Music Month 2006 and also had a few songs to download from the Triple J Unearthed website which I decided to give a listen. (They are still available if you wish to check them out.)
The songs were on high rotation on my playlist for a good couple of years. During that time I was searching for their album to purchase but it became one of the hardest albums for me to find considering they were a recent and local Australian band.
I finally came across a copy of Questions and Answers last month and snapped it up as quickly as I could. I really love this album. It has body and the combination of all the instruments works really well. There is not a low moment on this album for me.
It is a shame Morals of a Minor only released the one album before they split up, but at least it was a brilliant one.

I bought two CDs today. Iron and Wine - The Shepherd’s Dog & The Presets - Apocalypso.
I’m not too sure what to think of Iron and Wine just yet but I think it will grow on me.
The Presets are an interesting one for me. I think it was about 2005 when The Presets released their song Girl and the Sea. I really really liked it and for a while after hearing it tried to find a copy of the EP it was on. After no success I ended up forgetting about it.
When Apocalypso was released and became huge it didn’t click that it was the same band. The sound of Girl and the Sea and the songs on Apocalypso are quite contrasting. To be honest though, I haven’t heard any of the other songs on Beams (their debut album and which Girl and the Sea appears on) so it might be an unfair comparison.
I haven’t been too keen on Apocalypso. At my place of work Apocalypso gets played frequently and as much as I feel it’s been overplayed, I’ve decided to give it another go and listen to it on my own terms in my own time.
I do look forward to purchasing Beams in the future which I hope will have similar sounds as Girl and the Sea.
